Microcomputer/Network Specialist II

This is fulltime permanent position is located in Seward, AK within AVTEC-Alaska’s Institute of Technology, the state’s public postsecondary vocational technical school. The incumbent is responsible for the overall operation, integrity, and maintenance of the institution's computers and computer network.

AVTEC employs 100 staff, each with either a desktop or laptop computer. AVTEC trains approximately 1,500 students per year, many using personal computers that must have access to the institution’s servers and Internet. AVTEC has a number of computer labs around campus for student use. AVTEC’s phone system is VOIP.

This position supervises a computer specialist that assists with day-to-day service and maintenance of the computer and network and an instructional aide that serves as the institution webmaster. 

Applicants must demonstrate the following: thorough understanding of computer and network design, support, and management; experience in managing large organization’s computer infrastructures; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; experience in managing, supervising and evaluating work of subordinate staff.
