AVTEC...Great careers for Alaska's future!
Alaska Vocational Technical Center

Welcome to the Web Development Technology program. The AVTEC Web Development Technology program offers training in the skills required to be a Web development professional. These professionals specialize in creating the Web-based dynamic applications which allow us to order items from the Internet, register for classes using a Web browser, request flight information, or any of the many

activities we have come to expect from the modern World Wide Web.  The courses in this program focus on four of the most desirable skills in the development industry – Web site creation, programming, database design, and project management.

Software developers, especially those skilled in web-based tools, are in high demand. A study by the Information Technology Association of America published in May 2002 projected 578,711 IT positions would go unfilled that year due to a lack of qualified workers. The AVTEC IT - Web Application Developer program is designed specifically to prepare a person for these positions.

This 38 week comprehensive program utilizing industry standard curriculum is designed to prepare students for the roles of Web developer, webmaster, software developer, Client/Server developer, database developer, programmer, and programmer/analyst. Graduates of this program are prepared for entry level positions in these roles because they have received hands-on experience in developing applications as class projects and have completed an internship in industry. The coursework is aligned with high demand industry certifications including CIW Specialist,  industry programmer certifications, and CompTIA Project+.

AVTEC is an Authorized CIW Academic Partner

Students will develop skills with a variety of languages and tools such JavaScript, PHP, object-oriented programming languages, Alice, SQL, integrated development environments, Microsoft Sharepoint Designer, Macromedia Studio MX, and Web analysis tools.
